President Nangolo Mbumba has officially opened the Cabinet for its final session before a new administration takes over on March 21, 2025.
The current Cabinet will conclude its work by March 20, having held 22 meetings in 2024, which resulted in 320 decisions and numerous policy initiatives.
Mbumba has urged cabinet ministers to focus on economic growth, employment creation, and poverty eradication, finalise their reports, and submit them to the president.
“Our decisions should translate into a better quality of life for our citizens. The work of the Cabinet must drive economic growth, create employment, and eradicate poverty, especially for the youth and marginalised communities,”said the president.
Mbumba stressed the need for ministers to accelerate efforts in the coming weeks to ensure that all pending dossiers, programmes, and activities, especially those related to green schemes are concluded before March 20.
Mbumba has encouraged outgoing officials to embrace the future and find new opportunities beyond their government roles.
“I know some people are reluctant about leaving office and uncertain about what comes next. But at least I am not one of them. We should prepare for the future and be ready to contribute wherever we are,”he said.
Reflecting on life beyond public office, Mbumba shared the story of a former regional councillor from the then Kavango region.
“He moved from Rundu back to his village because, as he said, in Rundu, he couldn’t employ anyone or make an impact. His decision is a reminder that opportunities exist beyond our current roles,” Mbumba noted.
