Windhoek, February 13, 2025

City of Windhoek spokesperson Lydia Amutenya has dismissed allegations of irregularities in the municipality’s dealings with Redforce Debt Management, stating that no evidence has been provided to substantiate the claims.

Speaking in response to recent concerns raised by residents and activists, Amutenya emphasized that account holders who require clarification regarding their municipal bills should contact the City of Windhoek’s customer service center at 061-290-3377 or email inquiry@windhoekcc.org.na for accurate information.

Avoiding Redforce Debt Collection

Amutenya urged residents to settle their municipal accounts on time or adhere to payment arrangements with the debt management team to prevent their accounts from being handed over to Redforce. “If you don’t adhere to the payment arrangements that you put in place, your account will go into arrears, and as a result, it will be handed over to the debt collectors,” she explained.

She reiterated that once an account is transferred to Redforce, it means all prior options for settlement have been exhausted. To retrieve such an account, the account holder must pay the outstanding balance in full.

Addressing Billing Discrepancies

For residents who believe their accounts have been overcharged or undercharged, Amutenya advised them to reach out to the City of Windhoek’s customer service or visit an inquiry office for assistance. If any errors are found in the billing, necessary corrections will be made.

Proactive Financial Planning

Amutenya stressed that there are multiple ways for residents to avoid being handed over to Redforce, including making timely payments or arranging structured payment plans with the City. “Most of the time, we only act once an account has been handed over to Redforce, but there are opportunities to ensure accounts are paid up or that challenges are addressed before reaching that stage,” she noted.

She concluded by emphasizing that avoiding Redforce depends on individuals’ commitment to settling their municipal bills responsibly.
