The Namibian government is set to ratify the SADC Protocol on Inter-State Transfer of Sentenced Offenders, allowing Namibians convicted abroad to serve their sentences in Namibia. The proposal, introduced by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, aims to strengthen regional cooperation on criminal justice. If passed, the agreement will facilitate prisoner exchanges between Namibia and other SADC member states, ensuring humanitarian considerations and access to rehabilitation programs closer to home. The motion is expected to receive bipartisan support, as similar agreements have already been implemented in other African nations.
