Erongo region strengthens GBV response

today4 March, 2025

Background

Erongo Governor Neville Andre Itope launched the Erongo Regional Gender Permanent Task Force last year as part of national efforts to combat gender-based violence (GBV). The initiative coordinates responses to domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of abuse, which remain among the most prevalent crimes in the region.

Speaking on the progress of the Task Force, Itope reiterated that GBV continues to be a pressing issue in Erongo.

He said the Task Force’s role is to strengthen collaboration between law enforcement, community organisations, and support services to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.

The Task Force has focused on awareness campaigns, improved victim support services, and increased community engagement to prevent and respond to GBV. Authorities hope that these efforts will lead to long-term change in tackling gender-based violence in Erongo.
