The Private Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology Practice (OB-GYN Practice) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the BeFree Cares Clinic yesterday at the BeFree youth campus in Katutura, Winhdoek.
The MoU formalised a collective commitment to bridge gaps in essential obstetrics and gynaecological healthcare for women and girls in vulnerable communities.
The partnership was first formulated when 112 women received screening during and OB-GYN outreach on the 18th of January this year. At the same outreach 96 women also received medical consultations and free sonographic examinations.
The MoU outlines delivering quarterly gynaecological examinations, ultrasounds, diagnostic tests, fertility screening, obstetric care and reproductive health education for at least 100 young women and girls.
This will be coupled with personalised medical advice and treatment to ensure that essential healthcare is accessible to all.
Dr. Simon Emvula, a lead specialist at the OB-GYN Practice said providing accessible and specialised care is aimed at empowering women and girls to take control of their health, make informed decisions, and lead more fulfilling lives.
Emvula said the agreement will also address Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and provide prenatal and postpartum care. In addition to the medical care, counselling services are available to ensure that the emotional and psychological well-being of women and girls is prioritised.
Former first lady and One Economy Executive Chairperson, Monica Geingos, said quality and accessible reproductive health care are important and critical for all demographics in the country.
Geingos commended the OB-GYN’s efforts during the first clinic outreach and thanked them for availing these facilities to those that are not centred in a specific region.
The next outreach is scheduled for 29 March 2025 in Groot Aub, continuing the quarterly free consultations which will further include personalised treatment plans.
