The Trade Union Congress of Namibia (TUCNA) is calling on the Presidency to overturn its decision to merge the labour and justice ministries.
The union’s secretary-general, Mahongora Kavihuha, argues that the decision should be re-evaluated, citing the extensive scope of the labour ministry, which goes beyond labour relations.
Kavihuha emphasised that it would be disingenuous to limit the mandate of the labour ministry to just labour relations.
He said such a narrow focus would exclude essential areas such as social protection, social dialogue, and the protection of human and workers’ rights.
