Windhoek, NamibiaFormer Member of Parliament and ex-National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) secretary general Josef Kauandenge has unveiled a new political entity, the Association for Localised Interest (Asoli), which targets active participation in the upcoming Windhoek municipal council elections.

Asoli, already registered with the Electoral Commission of Namibia, is set for its official launch this Friday in Windhoek. The movement seeks to invigorate the political landscape by attracting younger demographics and fostering a new generation of public servants.

“I’m out of NUDO for the simple reason that I wanted to create something vibrant that can really attract young people to the political arena,” Kauandenge stated, emphasizing the need for fresh perspectives in Namibian politics.

“Something fresh, something that will mold these young people into becoming actually good-serving politicians.”

Kauandenge’s departure from NUDO follows internal party dynamics and his previous attempts to unify opposition parties within the Windhoek City Council. According to The Namibian, he has been vocal about the need for collaborative leadership and has criticized the prevailing political egos that hinder effective governance.

The launch of Asoli comes at a time when Windhoek’s municipal council has faced challenges in electing a cohesive leadership body, leading to stalled service delivery. Kauandenge’s initiative aims to address these issues by promoting accountability and youth involvement in local governance.
