Namibia to assume AfDB alternate executive director role in 2025

Namibia will take up the role of Alternate Executive Director for the Southern Africa Group II Constituency at the African Development Bank (AfDB) starting 1 August 2025. Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah says this appointment strengthens the country’s role in AfDB governance and will involve coordination with Angola, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe.

Furthermore, this position involves participating in strategic decision-making to promote economic development and social progress in member countries. The Alternate Executive Director will support the Executive Director in representing the interests of the Southern Africa Group II Constituency at the AfDB. 

The Annual Meetings are the institution’s most important event. They include the 60th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank and the 51st Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund, the Bank Group’s concessional window.

Founded in 1964 and headquartered in Abidjan, the African Development Bank’s core mission is to foster sustainable economic development and social progress in its regional member countries. China became a member of the institution in 1985.
