Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) has launched a tender process for 5G network licenses, paving the way for commercial rollout by November, which is just in time for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for early 2026.

Under the country’s Digital Morocco 2030 agenda, the government wants to attain 25% population coverage by end‑2025/early 2026, followed by 70% coverage by 2030. Emerging from recent collaborative ventures, operators Maroc Telecom and Inwi are investing MAD 4.4 billion (~USD 460m) in fiber and telecom tower infrastructure to support the expansion.

The initial phase prioritises urban centres, tech hubs, and AFCON host cities, ensuring strong connectivity ahead of the sporting event and beyond. The push for 5G coverage complements plans to connect 6,300 public institutions by 2026 and expand fiber access to 5.6 million homes by 2030
