NORED clears N$341 million debt with NamPower

The Northern Electricity Distributor (NORED) has cleared its N$341 million debt with NamPower, the national power utility, in June 2025. The repayment marks a critical financial milestone, given NORED’s role in supplying electricity across northern regions of the country. The move is expected to ease some pressure on the national grid and potentially help streamline regional energy distribution. Future Media’s Maria Namupala reports.

NORED serves multiple regions, including Oshana, Omusati, and Kunene, and has faced mounting pressure from unpaid obligations. Its improved financial standing could support NamPower’s broader reform efforts across Namibia’s energy distribution landscape.
