Ngurare takes to Facebook about past suicidal thoughts linked to financial stress

Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has publicly shared a deeply personal account of financial hardship on his personal Facebook that nearly led him to take his own life between 2015 to 2019.

Ngurare revealed that during that period, he faced severe financial distress, with both his house and car on the brink of repossession due to prolonged non-payment.

“Between 2015 and 2019, I was in serious financial stress. The house and car were on the verge of being repossessed. The thought crossed my mind to commit suicide.”

Ngurare credited the unwavering support of family, friends, and comrades for helping him overcome those dark moments.

“Thanks to the support of family, friends and comrades, I managed to thwart those thoughts. Financial stress happens to most of us and I am still paying off the debt.”

The Prime Minister shared this experience to urge others facing similar struggles not to give up, emphasising the value of life and the need for collective support.

“Please don’t go through with it. Fight on. The sun will shine again amidst all hardships of life. To be alive is priceless, especially to one’s family.”

Ngurare called on both government and the private sector to join hands in supporting Namibians in financial distress.

“Let’s hold hands as a nation to save those in financial distress. By all of us, I mean both government and the private sector.”

“May God bless you all, and may God bless Namibia,” he concluded.
