Background

Ohangwena region Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa has called for the deployment of more social workers and psychological counsellors across constituencies to support communities faced with growing socioeconomic pressures linked to an increase in suicides.

During a recent address, she said that “people are finding it difficult to deal with the socioeconomic pressures they experience daily,” warning that without decisive action, the region faces an ongoing tragedy of young professionals and public servants losing their lives.

Hamutumwa described the issue as both a national and regional crisis demanding coordinated care and intervention.
