British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made his country’s decision crystal clear. Starmer announced that the United Kingdom will officially recognise the State of Palestine in September if Israel does not agree to a ceasefire in Gaza and meet certain peace terms.

The statement comes as diplomatic pressure mounts over the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Starmer indicated that recognition would be part of the UK’s broader approach to supporting a two-state solution.

Israeli officials have strongly criticised the announcement, warning it could harm diplomatic relations.

The UK government says it is still encouraging negotiations between the two sides but is prepared to act unilaterally if necessary.
