Student nurse arrested for baby’s attempted murder

A 26-year-old student nurse is under police guard at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital after she allegedly threw her newborn baby in a pit latrine in Engela village, Ohangwena Region.

The incident happened around 03h00 on Friday. According to the police, a family member heard a baby crying from the latrine pit and immediately alerted authorities. Police officers responded swiftly and managed to rescue the baby girl, who was born at approximately 28 weeks.

Both the mother and the infant are reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect is currently facing a charge of attempted murder, and investigations are ongoing
