Ndonga Linena green scheme sets standard for modern agriculture

By: Staff Reporter

Ndonga Linena green scheme is currently one of the four government-run projects in the Kavango Region using technology.

The farm manager , Janno Rentel revealed this on Wednesday during the visit of the parliamentary standing committee on natural resources to the scheme.

Rentel said the adoption of technology has transformed farming operations at the farm.

“With the technology we now have, I can monitor soil conditions in real time and track the growth of every crop. This allows us to optimise water usage, improve crop yields, and respond quickly to any challenges that arise,” said Rentel.

Under his management, the scheme has introduced precision farming techniques, including soil sensors, automated irrigation systems, and crop monitoring tools.

These innovations have not only improved productivity but have also reduced wastage and promoted sustainable practices.

Rentel said the farm’s success could serve as a blueprint for other state owned schemes in the region.

“If other farms adopt similar technology and management practices, we could see significant improvements in food security, employment, and income generation for local communities,” he added.

The committee’s chairperson Tobie Aupindi praised the scheme for its innovative approach and expressed interest in replicating the model across other regions in the country.
