A police chase in Windhoek’s Dorado Park on Saturday ended in an exchange of gunfire after suspects opened fire on officers  along Moses Garoeb Street.

According to the police, they had received information about a suspicious metallic blue Honda Fit parked along Hendrick Witbooi Drive. When officers approached, the vehicle sped off. During the high-speed pursuit, the car eventually came to a stop, and five men—including the driver—fled on foot.

Two of the suspects ran into a nearby riverbed and allegedly fired shots at the officers. A 25-year-old Namibian suspect was shot in the back and taken to Katutura Hospital for treatment.

A screwdriver, a Hisense cellphone, an iPhone, two Samsung phones, a C-type charger, a cap, and a brown cosmetic bag were recovered from the abandoned vehicle.

The remaining suspects are still at large. Police investigations are ongoing
