Government Ministry launches awareness campaign on electronic ID in Otjimbingwe

today23 September, 2025

Background

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security has launched an awareness campaign in Otjimbingwe to educate residents about the upcoming electronic identity (EID) system, which is scheduled to be implemented in July 2026.

The initiative aims to prepare communities for the new system, which is expected to cut queues, protect personal data, reduce fraud, and save costs. More awareness sessions will follow across the country to ensure citizens are well-informed and ready for the rollout.

The Ministry’s spokesperson, Margaret Kalo, said, “We will work closely with governors, councillors, and traditional leaders to reach communities effectively and ensure everyone understands the benefits of the EID.”
