Wildfires Rage Across Etosha and Surrounding Communities

today29 September, 2025

Background

Minister of Environment Indileni Daniel confirmed that wildfires that began on 22 September in Etosha National Park have engulfed about 775,000 hectares within the park and 171,000 hectares outside, impacting nearby communities. Extensive firefighting operations are underway, involving MEFT staff, soldiers, police, regional councils, and private sector partners, using helicopters, fire engines, and tankers. Residents and visitors are strongly advised to stay cautious as the fires, fueled by dry vegetation and strong winds, continue to pose serious risks.
