Wildfires continue to rage through Etosha National Park and parts of the Omusati and Oshana regions, with over 450 personnel battling to contain the flames. Efforts have been hampered by strong winds and dry conditions, making the fire difficult to control.

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism has confirmed that assessments are still underway to determine the extent of wildlife losses in the park.

Johnson Ndokosho, Director of Forest and Botanical Research at the ministry, said the blaze is believed to have started at a charcoal production site outside the park’s borders.

Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and avoid activities that could spark new fires, as Namibia faces heightened risks during this dry season.
