Oshikoto Police on Sunday arrested a 39-woman-old woman for hacking her 89-year-old grandmother at Oshamba village in Oniipa constituency.

According to the incident report issued by Oshikoto regional crime investigation coordinator, deputy commissioner, Titus Ekandjo, the victim, Julia Michael, reportedly lived alone.

Ekandjo said the granddaughter who is believed to be mentally ill and resides in Ondangwa came to visit her grandmother on Saturday.

He added that the suspect is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s court on Tuesday.

Ekandjo further said a neighbour who occasionally assists Michael, visited her homestead and found the granddaughter cooking but became suspicious when he could not find her. He then began searching for a homestead.

Ekandjo said the neighbour discovered Michael’s body in her bedroom, on the floor in a pool of blood, with multiple wounds.

Two pangas and a knife suspected to have been used in the attack, were found next to the deceased.

Police investigations are ongoing.
