By: Selma Taapopi

The executive director in the ministry of health and social services, Penda Ithindi, has stressed the importance of the timely completion of the construction work currently ongoing at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the intermediate hospital oshakati in the Oshana region.

The project which was started in June last year is expected to be completed in Novemeber 2025 which is earlier than the contracted date at a cost of N$35 million.

Ithindi is currently in the region evaluating various ongoing health infrastructure projects of the ministry. He further praised the progress that the project has made thus far with the procurement of medical furniture and advanced equipment currently underway.

The construction work will see a modernised ICU unit at the hospital, the completion of which Ithindi says will reduce patient transfers to Windhoek and save lives. He adds that the upgraded facility is aligned with the ministry’s Vision April 2026 and a demonstration of the government’s commitment to quality healthcare.
