Hundreds of cargo trucks remain stranded at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, despite a ceasefire agreement following last week’s deadly clashes that disrupted one of South Asia’s most vital trade routes.

The violence, which erupted near the Torkham crossing — a key gateway for goods and travelers — left several people dead and prompted both sides to temporarily close the border. While Pakistan and Afghanistan have since agreed to restore calm, trade has yet to resume in full, leaving perishable goods stuck in long queues under sweltering conditions.

Both countries rely heavily on cross-border commerce for food, fuel, and construction materials. Traders on both sides warn that prolonged delays could further strain fragile supply chains and worsen inflation.

Officials say talks are underway to fully reopen the crossing and prevent further military flare-ups, but tensions remain high as each side accuses the other of provocation.
