The Chinese government has voiced its support for African nations’ calls for reparations over historical injustices such as the transatlantic slave trade. Speaking in Windhoek, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Zhao Weiping, said the West must acknowledge and act upon the suffering inflicted on Africans, describing reparations as a long-overdue act of justice. He added that China is aligning its support with Namibia’s development priorities, pledging continued investment to help realise the government’s goal of creating 500 000 jobs in five years.
