South Africa’s Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi, has warned that cholera outbreaks are increasing across Africa, coinciding with repeated shortages of vaccines.

Biovac, a South African vaccine manufacturer, has received approval from the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority to begin clinical trials for its oral cholera vaccine. The move aligns with the African Union’s goal to have 60% of all routine vaccines used on the continent produced locally by 2030.
