The Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) has expanded its palliative care services to the Erongo Region with the establishment of a new unit in Swakopmund.
According to a media statement from CAN CEO, Rolf Hansen, the facility will begin operating on 23 January 2026, following the completion of all registrations, statutory approvals, and administrative requirements. Construction and furnishing of the unit have been finalised, and recruitment began in mid-November 2025.
“Through the unwavering support of our partners, donors, and many dedicated Namibians, we are honoured to introduce our 10-bed palliative care unit at the CAN Erongo Centre in the heart of Swakopmund.
More than the establishment of a new facility, this development reflects our shared determination to ensure that individuals and families affected by cancer receive compassionate, dignified, and accessible care when they need it most,” Hansen said.
Hansen further confirmed that architectural design and town planning for the Palliative Care Namibia facility in Windhoek West are progressing steadily.
Work on this project is set to advance from January 2026. The facility will be situated near CAN’s Head Office and interim homes, complementing the existing House Zietsman Care Facility in Klein Windhoek.
