The United Kingdom has announced that citizens from Namibia, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo could face visa bans if their governments fail to take back illegal migrants.

The move forms part of the UK government’s tougher rules on refugees, unveiled on Monday, aimed at reducing illegal immigration. Conservative shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp expressed scepticism about the policy’s effectiveness, noting that the UK remains bound by the European Convention on Human Rights.

Officials say the measures are intended to pressure governments into cooperating with London on repatriation and migration management.
