South Africa’s Presidency has pushed back against remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, calling his comments “unwarranted insults” and insisting that the country’s democratic processes remain robust and independent. Trump claimed this week that South Africa would be excluded from next year’s G20 summit over what he described as “human rights abuses” against white South Africans, allegations widely discredited over the years by Reuters, BBC, and academic studies that found no evidence of state-sanctioned targeting.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the claims were not only inaccurate but also harmful, adding that the U.S. leader’s remarks misrepresented South Africa’s constitutional protections and long-standing commitment to non-racialism.

Pretoria, meanwhile, says it intends to focus on strengthening diplomatic ties rather than responding to what it described as “politically motivated misinformation.”
