Namibia’s GDP growth slows in third quarter – FNB

FNB Namibia has reported that the country’s nominal gross domestic product growth slowed to 6.0% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2025, down from 9.9% in the second quarter, in line with weaker real economic momentum.

Real GDP growth improved slightly to 1.9% in the third quarter of 2025, compared to 1.3% in the second quarter, but remained below the 2.1% recorded in third quarter of 2024.

Looking at sectoral performance, FNB`s Market Research Manager, Mandisa van Wyk, said the primary sector contracted by 6.7% year-on-year, largely due to sharp declines in agriculture and mining.

The secondary sector grew by 1.2%, supported mainly by strong performance in electricity and water production.

However, manufacturing remained under pressure, with significant declines in meat processing, metals and beverages, while construction contracted by 5.0% due to reduced building activity and lower government spending.

The secondary industry saw a modest improvement increasing by 1.2% y/y primarily driven by a significant increase in electricity and water which grew by 12.5% y/y in 3Q25 compared to 4.9% y/y in the second quarter of 2025.
