Nandi-Ndaitwah urges unity as she opens new session of Parliament

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Tuesday opened the Third Session of Namibia’s Eighth Parliament with a call for unity, urging lawmakers to rise above partisan politics and focus on improving the lives of citizens.

The annual ceremony, held under the theme “Enhancing the role of Parliament for inclusive development and participatory democracy,” brought together the executive, legislature, and judiciary in a symbolic affirmation of constitutional governance.

In her address, the President acknowledged political differences among elected representatives but stressed the need for a shared commitment to national prosperity and well-being.

“While we might have different political views as elected representatives, we should be united by a common goal, the prosperity and the well-being of the Namibian people,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

She called on Members of Parliament, regardless of affiliation, to “rise above partisanship” and ensure the session delivers “constructive engagement and timely, tangible outcomes” for citizens.

The opening signals the formal start of the parliamentary calendar, with lawmakers expected to turn their attention to legislation, oversight, and national priorities in the months ahead.
