Ondangwa town council launches war on litter

The Ondangwa town council officially launched a campaign on Thursday to address the growing concern of illegal waste disposal.

According to the town’s spokesperson, Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha, the increase in indiscriminate dumping across various areas of the town not only poses serious environmental and public health risks but has also negatively affected the image and attractiveness of the town.

“The campaign seeks to raise awareness about responsible waste disposal, strengthen enforcement of existing waste management regulations, and encourage community participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment”, said Shitalangaho-Mutikisha.

She further added that as a local authority committed to service excellence and sustainable urban management, the town council views this matter with utmost seriousness.

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha urged residents, businesses, and all stakeholders to make use of designated waste disposal sites and to refrain from dumping refuse in open spaces, riverbeds, streets, and other undesignated areas.

She added that the council will intensify monitoring and may impose penalties on offenders in accordance with applicable regulations and calls on the entire community to work together in preserving the dignity, cleanliness, and reputation of the town
