Seven male suspects were arrested across Namibia over the Independence weekend after police uncovered illegal drugs, including cannabis, mandrax tablets and cocaine, during stop-and-search operations.

According to the weekend crime report, an adult male was arrested at Osire on Saturday after he was allegedly found in possession of bankies of cannabis during a police search. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In a separate incident at Mururani Village in the Kavango West Region, a 29-year-old Namibian male was also arrested on Saturday after police allegedly found him in possession of cannabis. He remains in custody.

At Aranos, two Namibian male suspects aged between 17 and 19 were arrested on Friday in the Nuwerus location after reportedly being found in possession of cannabis and mandrax tablets during a stop-and-search operation.

Meanwhile, in Mondesa, Swakopmund, a 26-year-old Namibian male was arrested on Saturday after he was allegedly found with cannabis, mandrax tablets and cocaine during a police search.

In Mariental, a 20-year-old Namibian male was arrested on Friday after reportedly being found in possession of bankies of cannabis. Police said the arrest followed intelligence-led information, which led to a search for a vehicle in which the suspect was an occupant.

Another arrest was made near Karasburg along the B3 main road on Friday, where a 63-year-old Namibian male was allegedly found in possession of cannabis during a stop-and-search operation.

He is expected to appear in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court.
