Police deploy drone and helicopter in search for Beatus Iiyambo

today24 March, 2026

Background

By: Ludorf Iiyambo

Namibian Police intensified their search for missing Beatus Iiyambo (25) last Friday, deploying a helicopter and drone.

The search also included foot patrols and sniffer dogs in areas where Iiyambo was last seen, including Windhoek’s Khomasdal, Otjomuise and Goreangab.

Despite these efforts, Khomas Region’s Head of the Crime Investigation Division, Deputy Commissioner Fredrik Ndjadila, said there has been no trace of Iiyambo since they launched a high-level investigation two weeks ago.

Iiyambo went missing two months ago after travelling from the Omusati Region to Windhoek for work.

Ndjadila explained that a helicopter conducted an aerial search in three areas. He said the operation was guided by data from MTC Namibia, which assisted police to search in the last area Iiyambo was seen.

“ So the chopper (helicopter) was in the area, and it was levelled to all the degrees possible in that area to be able to scan the area. Unfortunately, we could not get anything positive or tangible. So then in the same process, because it was very intensive, we deployed the drone…nothing could be uncovered in that area,” remarked Ndjadila, adding that the police immediately assigned their canine unit to continue the search.

He said the investigations are ongoing and are urging members of the public to come forward with any information that could help locate Tuna.
