Kunene, Kavango East brace for newspaper cup title defence in Keetmanshoop

today30 March, 2026

Background

The Nedbank Namibia Newspaper Cup defending champions, Kunene (football) and Kavango East (netball) are preparing for a strong title defence at the 2026 Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup, set to take place in Keetmanshoop from 3 to 6 April.

Kunene’s football team enters the tournament with confidence after winning the recent Outjo Football Academy under-20 competition with assistant coach Simon Haradoeb, stating that the victory has boosted team’s morale.

He said they have retained several players from last year’s championship squad and they aim to go far despite a challenging group.

In netball, Kavango East is equally determined to defend their crown.

Assistant coach Edeltraud Mupiri said the team is ready to fiercely defend their title, highlighting a well-balanced squad combining experience and youth.

The tournament will feature under-20 football and netball teams from all 14 regions, continuing its role as Namibia’s leading youth sports event.
