Pedestrian killed in train accident near Okahandja

A male pedestrian has died after being struck by a TransNamib train near Okahandja on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the company, the incident occurred in a non-residential area when the pedestrian allegedly attempted to cross the railway line.

TransNamib spokesperson, Alina Garises, said preliminary findings indicate that the train was travelling at 52 km/h, within the prescribed speed limit at the time of the accident.

Authorities have since been notified, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

TransNamib Chief Executive Officer, Desmond van Jaarsveld, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, stating that the company is deeply saddened by the loss.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones affected during this difficult time,” he said.
