President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said the government and Germany are getting closer to concluding long-standing negotiations on genocide, apology and reparations relating to the 1904-08 Ovaherero and Nama genocide.
Nandi-Ndaitwah made the remarks on Wednesday at Parliament during the State of Nation Address.
“We are now within reach of concluding these negotiations, possibly before the end of the year. We count on our collective political will to close this dark chapter and begin the long-awaited process of healing.”
The president said the Joint Declaration is now set to be tabled before the National Assembly.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said progress follows sustained efforts by the government, supported by Cabinet structures and affected communities.
