Malawi has made its first successful large-scale wheat harvest after trying for years to find a grain variety suitable for its soil. According to radio network Voice of America, Malawi imports 200,000 tonnes of wheat at $48 million. To achieve self-sufficiency, it may take the country four years to produce enough wheat. Meanwhile, Agriculture experts in Malawi say wheat farming is expected to produce about 90 metric tons, which is 50 percent of the country’s wheat consumption.
