Brazil donates over N.dollars 2 million to Namibian food security

The government of Brazil has donated an additional US.dollars 120 000 (approximately N.dollars 2 233 200) to Namibia’s food security project through the World Food Programme.

This is in addition to an earlier donation of N.dollars 2.28 million made in August.

Brazil’s Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, during the opening of the second diplomatic consultations between Namibia and Brazil on Monday, said Brazil is supporting projects aimed at enhancing the food and nutrition security and vulnerable communities in Namibia.

He added that Brazil is also working with Namibia to improve the school feeding program.

“We have also started a dialogue between Brazil’s public defender’s office and the Namibian Ministry of Justice. These are all areas where we have a lot of commonalities in terms of solutions to problems faced by developing countries. Brazil in some cases has been able to provide certain solutions that are very relevant for developing countries and in this case, we already have a significant agenda,” Duarte said.

Also in attendance was the Executive Director of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Penda Naanda, who said that under south-south cooperation, the two governments have shared successes at the bilateral level, including in defence.

He informed the gathering that celebrations will be held next year to celebrate 30 years of the naval agreement, signed on 02 March 1994, when the first military ship, Brazilian Frigate Niteroi, entered Namibian waters.

“Namibia would like to diversify areas of cooperation between the two countries and I strongly believe that the consultations will pave the way for collaboration in different spheres. It is my desire that as a result of our discussion today, our bilateral relations continue to expand exponentially in all sectors of life for the mutual benefit of our two countries and peoples,” Naanda added.
