Johanna “Joey” Mushelenga’s Project 1000 Pads: Empowering Girls Through Sanitary Product Donations

Johanna Mushelenga, founder of Project 1000 Pads, the initiative’s mission to support vulnerable girl children by providing sanitary products was discussed. The project, established in 2020, aims to address the economic challenges faced by families unable to afford these essential items.

Mushelenga expressed her passion for assisting the girl child, emphasizing the emotional moment that inspired her to create Project 1000 Pads. The initiative collects sanitary products and collaborates with institutions like Safe Free to ensure widespread support.

She discussed her efforts in reaching out to schools in Windhoek, such as Hage Geingob Secondary School, Havana Project School, A. Shipena, and Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School. The donations are managed by specific lifeskills teachers who understand the needs of the students better.

Highlighting the economic difficulties faced by households in Namibia, Mushelenga stressed the importance of collaborations with various institutions to expand the impact of Project 1000 Pads. Safe Free has been a significant contributor to the initiative.

In the interview, Johanna  emphasized her commitment to empowering the girl child by addressing the challenges associated with menstrual hygiene. The project’s name, Project 1000 Pads, reflects its goal of providing sanitary products to those in need.
