Michael Amushelelo, the General Secretary of the newly established National Union of Retail Industry Workers of Namibia, passionately addressed the media, emphasizing the union’s commitment to restoring the dignity of workers in the country.

He lamented that, despite being an independent nation, many workers, including cashiers and those in various sectors, struggle to afford basic necessities like housing due to inadequate salaries.

Expressing concern over the erosion of people’s buying power caused by inflation, Amushelelo asserted the union’s dedication to fighting for fair and decent wages for workers. He criticized the disparity between CEOs receiving exorbitant bonuses, sometimes in the millions, while the hardworking employees are left with meager salaries.

“It is not okay that a CEO of a certain company can be paid a hundred million dollars in bonuses while the employees who make those millions and billions are only paid a few thousand Namibian dollars,” Amushelelo exclaimed.
