Report Attributes High Failure Rate to Automatic Grade Progression

today15 February, 2024

Background

A recent parliamentary standing committee report identifies the main cause of the high failure rate among grades 11 and 12 students in the 2022 academic year. It points to the automatic progression of students to the next grade without acquiring basic competencies like reading and writing. The standing committee on education, science, information, communication technology, and youth development presented this report during a National Council session. The findings stress the need to address fundamental competencies to improve academic outcomes.
