Loide Shaanika, Secretary General of the Namibian National Teacher’s Union, voices concern over the growing incidence of corporal punishment in schools. Shaanika disclosed that her office received 56 cases of corporal punishment last year and 18 cases this year. In response, Shaanika issued an external memo on Friday urging all NANTU members and teachers to abstain from administering corporal punishment to learners. She emphasized the need for alternative disciplinary measures to ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment.
