The Mobile Telecommunications Limited Netball Namibia Premier League (MTC NNPL) will kick off its 2024 season this Saturday with action slated for the JP Ratledge Stadium in Tsumeb.
The netball season, which is expected to run from April to November, will focus on raising awareness for the fight against cancer this year.
Netball Namibia (NN) president, Rebekka Goagoses in a statement availed to Nampa by NN said this year’s league takes on a special significance as it focuses on the fight against cancer.
“We have selected this theme to raise awareness and crucial funds for this important cause. We are reaching out to co-opt companies across Namibia to act. We are asking for sponsorship contributions of N.dollars 10 for every goal scored throughout the season. All the funds raised will be donated directly to the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN), the primary organisation in our battle against cancer,” she said.
Goagoses added that each of the 12 participating MTC NNPL teams has been assigned a specific type of cancer to be prominently displayed on their playing gear as a constant visual reminder of the cause they are championing.
The NN president also expressed gratitude to MTC for their support of a N.dollars 2.5 million sponsorship.
“We have secured a new three-year deal, which is crucial for ensuring the success of the MTC NNPL. We extend our heartfelt wishes to all the talented athletes participating in this season’s NNPL for an exceptional season. May you play with passion, sportsmanship, and a commitment to the cause we hold dear. We are looking forward to an exciting and impactful NNPL season,” Goagoses said.
