Namibia Wildlife Resorts, under state control, is projected to incur a loss of N$175 million due to Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism Pohamba Shifeta’s decision to grant a 25-year contract to a private company for transporting tourists into the Namib Desert. Shifeta’s choice to award the contract to Heiko Dorgeloh’s company has sparked criticism from affected communities who claim they were not consulted and advocate for the contract’s cancellation. Shifeta awarded the concession to About Africa.Co, trading as About Adelt Sossusvlei Management, which stands to earn a minimum of approximately N$250 million over 25 years for guiding travelers in the renowned Sossusvlei area.
