Background

A notorious escape artist ‘Nine’ Masule and 10 fellow inmates broke free from Katima Mulilo’s prison. Namibian Police Force spokesperson Inspector Kisco Sitali reported that the group used an unidentified object to cut through the cell roof before fleeing. While three were swiftly re-apprehended on Monday, the remaining eight, including Masule, remain at large. All escapees, awaiting trial for charges ranging from housebreaking to robbery, are considered dangerous. Masule, serving a five-year sentence for a prior escape, faces additional charges, including two for murder, two for rape, and three for housebreaking.
