Parliamentarian, Natangwe Ithete is pushing for the removal of the veterinary cordon fence , commonly known as the red line, to ensure fair access to a viable livestock market for farmers north of the barrier. The red line, established in 1896, acts as a pest-exclusion barrier, aiming to prevent the spread of diseases like foot and mouth. Ithete emphasized that his stance reflects the collective view of all members of parliament and aims to address the longstanding challenges faced by farmers. Scheduled engagements in Northern Communal Areas follow a petition urging the fence’s removal, with discussions ongoing to find a resolution.
