SADC PF Urges Action on Desertification and Drought

SADC Parliamentary Forum Secretary General, Boemo Sekgoma has urged global and Southern African attention to the urgent issues of desertification and drought. He called on SADC PF member parliaments to observe the United Nations’ World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought on June 17. Sekgoma stressed the region’s vulnerability to land degradation, which impacts food security and water availability, referencing the 2022-2032 SADC Drought Risk Management and Mitigation Strategy that projects increasing drought frequency and severity in the region.
