According to a coalition of rights groups and the police watchdog, one person lost their life and over 200 others were injured during Thursday’s countrywide demonstrations against the Kenyan government’s proposal to raise $2.7 billion in extra taxes. The coalition, comprising Amnesty International and the Kenya Medical Association among others, reported that police used tear gas and water cannons to scatter protesters in Nairobi, as stated in a joint release on Thursday evening.
