VP Nandi-Ndaitwah Stresses Self-Reliance in Namibia’s Genocide Negotiations with Germany

today28 June, 2024

Background

Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah called for Namibians to recognize the progress in the 1904-1908 genocide negotiations with Germany and advised against depending on external organizations. At the Chiefs Forum in Windhoek, she pointed out the inefficiencies of the international community, referencing the Gaza conflict. In 2021, Namibia and Germany negotiated a declaration acknowledging the genocide and agreeing on 1.1 billion euros in reparations. The deal, now under further negotiation, includes an unconditional apology and reparations for affected communities, including those in the diaspora.
