Nedbank Namibia is thrilled to announce the launch of the Nedbank CitiDash, an exhilarating race designed for both novice and elite runners. Set to take place on 8 September 2024, this event promises a day of fun, fitness, and fierce competition.

The Nedbank CitiDash aims to bring together the community in a celebration of health and athleticism. Whether you are a seasoned marathoner or just starting your running journey, this event offers a platform for everyone to shine.

Participants will have the opportunity to race through the City of Windhoek which provides a perfect blend of urban and natural landscapes.

During her keynote address at the launch event, of Sport, Youth and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero said: “In recent years, we’ve witnessed a remarkable surge in running from all walks of life. This growth is no coincidence. Running in its simplicity, is perhaps the most inclusive sport. It has a unique power to touch the lives of all Namibians regardless of ones age and background.”

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Nedbank Namibia for fostering athleticism and community engagement. Your dedication to this initiative is truly commendable,” the Minister added.

Speaking at the launch event Nedbank Namibia’s Managing Director, Martha Murorua said: “Running is a perfect metaphor for life – both are filled with uphill battles. Just as in running, life demands resilience and the courage to keep moving forward. The journey may be tough, but the sense of accomplishment makes every step worth it.”

Organiser of the Nedbank Citi Dash and representative from Cycletec, Frank Bombosch expressed his enthusiasm for the Nedbank CitiDash, saying: “The Nedbank Citi Dash is the first running event where the Independence Avenue in Windhoek has been closed off for a distance of 10km to accommodate runners.”

The Nedbank CitiDash is a must-attend event, whether you’re a dedicated runner, a racewalker, or just searching for the ideal family adventure. The event comprises two distances: a 5km and a 10km race. The starter’s gun is expected to go off at 07:30 a.m. For elite runners participating in the 10km CitiDash, the qualifying time for men is set at 55 minutes, and for women, 60 minutes.

Murorua added: “At Nedbank, we have been instrumental in promoting our various health-centric initiatives which include the Nedbank Desert Dash, and the recently concluded Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup.“

This year, the Nedbank CitiDash co-sponsors include, Checkers, Altra Running Shoes and Cycletec.

Prize money of N$100 000 is up for grabs for the elite males and females, as well as the top under-18 male and female athletes, and the top visually impaired and wheelchair athletes, courtesy of Nedbank’s generous sponsorship.

The 5km and 10km fun run entry fees are N$150, which include a branded Nedbank Citi Dash T-shirt, whereas the 10km elite run entry fee is N$350, which also include a branded Nedbank Citi Dash T-shirt. Group entries for scholars are N$100 per entry, and online entry is possible via the CitiDash website (Nedbank Citi Dash | Facebook), PayToday Home (PayToday), or at Cycletec Bicycle Shop.
