Swakopmund, Namibia – In a move set to increase community safety, a new police station is slated for construction in the DRC informal settlement and Matutura areas of Swakopmund. This development is made possible by a N$ 20 million donation from Rössing Uranium Mine, facilitated on land donated by the Swakopmund Municipality.

According to Home Affairs Minister Albert Kawana, the station aims to significantly enhance emergency response capabilities, crime prevention efforts, and overall law enforcement in the region. “This initiative underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents,” said Minister Kawana.

Explaining the initiative, Rössing Uranium Mine spokesperson Fikameni Mathias said, “This is not merely a financial contribution but a strategic investment in the safety and welfare of every individual residing in DRC”. He further stressed the personal connection, remarking, “Our employees live in these very communities, and their safety is paramount. Supporting this project aligns with our commitment to enhancing security where our employees and community members reside.”

The new police station represents a collaborative effort between public and private sectors, aiming to address community needs and foster a safer environment for all residents. Construction plans and further details are expected to unfold in the coming months as stakeholders continue to work towards realizing this vital community asset.
